Job Description

Primary Purpose

The Head of Corporate will work closely with the Group CEO to devise annual budgets, strategic initiatives, priorities, and deliverables. The primary responsibility of the job incumbent is to ensure that all the above departments deliver value high quality services to business units and operating companies in the Group.
They will provide leadership in a broad portfolio which includes Customer and Stakeholder Relationships, Human Resources, Legal and Compliance, Internal Audit, Risk Management, IT and Company Secretariat.

Main Responsibilities
1. Strategic Management
  • Work closely with the Group CEO to devise annual budgets, strategic initiatives, priorities, and deliverables
  • Ensure that agreed initiatives are being implemented as per approved time frame
  • Through value support initiatives, ensure that the group is meeting its performance objectives in terms of projects delivery and long term sustainable recurrent income portfolio
2. Works Execution and Delivery
  • Ensure that all direct reports are provided with appropriate challenge and support to enable them to provide effective performance in their service areas, and enable the delivery of high performing results
  • Determine the structures, roles and processes required to deliver services in line with corporate priorities and ensure that appropriately skilled and motivated resources are deployed so that corporate and service objectives are met
  • Lead and support change and promote and embed a culture of learning, innovation, and excellence to meet the evolving needs of service users, in order to drive continuous improvement in service delivery.
  • Ensure that the Human Resources, Legal and Compliance, IT, Risk Management, Company Secretariat, and Internal Audit departments operate within the applicable standards and code of practice and or legal parameters.
  • Ensure that all departments provide positive value to various functions through their level of efficiency, effectiveness, security, and productivity
3. Human Resource Management
  • Ensure that HR services provided to the group are as per best practice
  • Ensure that the HR team meets all the objectives set for the year
  • Ensure that HR Policies and Procedures are established, reviewed periodically and properly communicated across the Group and complied with.
  • Be a strategic business advisor to the executive/senior management teams across the group.
  • Ensure that adequate HR Best Practices are in place.
  • Motivate the HR and Administration team by providing adequate support and guidance to achieve their set objectives
4. Legal and Compliance
  • Ensure that systems and procedures in the Group are in compliance with all relevant legislations pertaining to its business activities with focus on AML/CFT rules.
  • Ensure that Compliance Policies and Procedures are established, reviewed periodically and properly communicated across the Group and complied with.
  • Ensure that legal advisory services provided to all business units and corporate units of the group are sound and rationale.
  • Ensure that all legal documents/ contracts/ any other document requiring legal review are assessed to safeguard the best interests of the Group.
  • Ensure that all contractual and regulatory records of the Group are efficiently managed and kept up to date.
5. Internal Audit and Risk Management
  • Examine and evaluate all potential risks within the different departments.
  • Ensure that all documentations in terms of policies, processes and procedures are in place.
  • Ensure implementation and maintain internal controls policies and practices as per the MC Group’s policy and best practice.
  • Establish a proper risk assessment register for all activities concerned by identifying potential risks, measuring likely occurrences and impact and steps to be taken to mitigate these risks.
  • Ensure that a risk mitigation and contingency plan is put in place and appropriate communication is made on same to all team members
6. IT
  • Ensure that Policies and Procedures are established, reviewed periodically and properly communicated across the Group and complied with.
  • Be responsible for the delivery of all aspects of the IT strategy, budget, resources, systems, and third-party management.
  • Effectively manage of third-party providers of infrastructure to ensure contracts, commercial arrangements and service delivery are aligned to the business requirements.
  • Be responsible for all IT security across the Group.
  • Be responsible for all Data Protection activities.
  • Work with the Senior Management Team and all staff across the Group to ensure that IT is aligned with the overall Group’s strategy.
7. Company Secretary
  • Ensure the efficient and effective management of the Cosec function.
  • Ensure that the group is compliant with all Corporate Governance and Best Practices
  • Ensure that all statutory filings are done within deadlines
8. Management Reporting
  • Ensure that accurate and timely functional monthly reports are produced
  • Ensure that accurate reports for Board meetings and management are produced as and when required
