Job Description
Job Purpose:
As a Commis - Pastry, you will work closely with the Pastry Chef and the team to create stunning, high-quality pastry and dessert offerings for our guests. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring pastry chef to develop their skills in a luxurious, fast-paced environment. You will be involved in all aspects of pastry preparation, from the creation of intricate desserts to high-volume production for various dining outlets and events.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Pastry Chef in the preparation of a variety of pastries, desserts, and baked goods.
- Ensure the consistency and quality of all pastry items produced, meeting the hotel's high standards.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry section, ensuring all health and safety guidelines are followed.
- Support the team in the daily mise en place, including ingredient preparation, equipment setup, and stock organization.
- Help create seasonal and special dessert menus in collaboration with senior pastry team members.
- Monitor inventory levels and report any stock shortages to the Pastry Chef.
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance pastry skills and knowledge.
- Uphold the hotel’s commitment to sustainability and reduce waste where possible.
Job Requirements
Qualifications & Competencies:
- Culinary qualification (Pastry or Culinary Arts) or equivalent work experience in a luxury hotel or high-end restaurant.
- Previous experience in a pastry kitchen, with at least 1 year as a Commis 2 or equivalent position.
- Passion for pastry, with a strong interest in learning and mastering new techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
- A positive attitude, team-oriented approach, and willingness to contribute to a collaborative working environment.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.
